General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude · 10 Units
UGC NET Paper 1 is common to every subject and tests teaching and research aptitude rather than subject knowledge. It carries 50 objective questions of 2 marks each (100 marks total) spread across the ten units below. At UGCNET121, each unit is paired with structured practice in our Paper 1 Lab.

Teaching Aptitude
Nature, objectives and characteristics of teaching; learner and teacher characteristics; methods, support systems and evaluation.
Research Aptitude
Meaning, types and approaches of research; steps, methods, ethics, and the structure of research reports and papers.
Comprehension
Reading and interpreting a given passage to answer inference, vocabulary and main-idea questions accurately.
Communication
Nature, types, barriers and effectiveness of classroom and mass communication, including verbal and non-verbal forms.
Mathematical Reasoning & Aptitude
Number series, letter series, codes, relationships, and basic arithmetic and quantitative reasoning.
Logical Reasoning
Arguments, analogies, Venn diagrams, syllogisms, and Indian logic (Pramanas) with deductive and inductive reasoning.
Data Interpretation
Reading tables, charts and graphs; data sources and acquisition; interpretation and reasoning-first questions.
Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
ICT basics, internet and digital tools, e-governance, and ICT applications in teaching and learning.
People, Development & Environment
Development and environment relationships, pollution, natural resources, disasters, and sustainability.
Higher Education System
Evolution and governance of higher education in India, institutions, policies and value education.
